Endangered extinct animals confined shrinking dark spaces confront us from the frames. These portraits of living threatened species are of individuals in the population who have been named by humans.
Mega fauna leaving the planet are preserved in medium only, where they can live forever. As they leave us we shift our perception from species to mythological creature. We see a dodo as more a part of Alice in Wonderland, than an actual bird in an ecosystem.
These portraits exist as one part sympathetic magic for my part, grasping at straws, bargaining with the fates staring into my golums while I stage whisper “The planet is dying” and I hope they understand what I really mean.
